PCX2023 Saturday Afternoon

What: You can’t put a live swing band in a library? Oh but you can! And those who came to the last PCX will know that you should! In a beautiful venue overlooking the Christchurch Cathedral, with the debut performance of Christchurch’s newest swing band this will be an event not to miss. You just need to decide are you a non-fiction type or a fiction fan… And for those with family members to entertain while you sneak off dancing, why not bring them? The library has the Imagination Station (Lego play area), dress ups, a slide, oh and some books, plus this is only a short stroll away from the Margaret Mahy playground.
Where: Turanga (Christchurch Central Library), 60 Cathedral Square. We will be in the TSB space on the first floor – walk up the stairs and turn right. Note: This is a nice floor but slightly rubbery so we recommend slippery shoes – and please don’t put any powder down! If you need tape for your shoes we will have some at the desk.
Who: Swing’s Own! Some of Christchurch’s most experienced jazz musicians are coming together to make a band specifically designed around playing awesome music to swing dance to. We will be welcoming Katie Martin, Mike Bickers, Russell Stedman and Lou Moverley to the stage and we are SO EXCITED to hear what they’ve put together for us!
When: Saturday 1st of April, doors open 1:45 pm, band playing 2 – 4 pm
Wear: Revisit your school book day vibes and dress as a character from a book. You just have to decide if you’re team fiction, or team non-fiction. Can’t be bothered? Just come in your regular clothes and tell us you’re in a book about humans. Can be bothered? Go all out on an awesome character and see how many people recognise you!
Worth: Included in a full pass, both people on a parents pass, or $25 single event (if not sold out prior), kids and non-dancing family members attend for free.
Wefweshments: Bring a water bottle! There’s a cafe just outside the door, or downstairs if you want some sustenance (or coffee!)
