About Our Classes

What do we teach?

Our regular Wednesday night classes are usually 6 week sets of lindy hop (the style most people think of when they think of swing dancing), at levels to suit everyone!

Check out the current timetable here.

We occasionally incorporate classes in a range of other swing-era dance styles, including blues, balboa, solo Charleston, Collegiate shag, and many more. These styles are both excellent fun in their own rights, or to incorporate into your lindy hop. A basic understanding of other styles will make you a better, more versatile dancer, plus they are just fun, so we like to include them when we can.

How much does it cost?

Full set = $75/set ($60 student/gold card)
Casual rate = $16/class ($13 student/gold card)
Multi-level freebie – as usual, higher level dancers in a given style can attend a lower level class in the same style on the same night for free (note that we reserve the right to ask you to step out of a lower level class if needed due to numbers/ratios )

How do I register and pay?

Registration for the current set of classes is via the link below. Registration for upcoming sets will be available two weeks prior to the start of the set. Payment is made via the registration form, and is necessary to confirm your registration. (Please note: It’s much better if you can come to a full set rather than casual classes as it is less disruptive to the class if people try not to miss too many weeks).

Please note: we will no longer be taking payment at the door (cash or EFTPOS). However you are welcome to complete the online registration form at the door if you did not already complete this.

If you have difficulty making payment via the form please talk to the person on the door and they will show you the process to use to register and pay via bank transfer (to Swingtown Rebels account 01-0797-0852621-00 (don’t forget your name as a reference!))

Who are the teachers?

Swingtown Rebels is lucky to have a diverse and experienced teaching team – check out their details here.

Do I need a partner?

You do not need to bring a partner to any of our classes, as we rotate partners during class! This helps people learn much faster, and how to dance with a range of different people, as we have a big focus on social dancing – that’s where the real fun comes in!

Where do I go?

Check out the main classes page for the schedule for the next set to see what level is when and where. Then have a look at our venues info page to figure out how to get there!

What is a taster class?

Taster classes run on our regular band nights in the week between sets, and are FREE! for new dancers. No obligations, come and have a go! If you have fun, come back the next week and sign up for a new set. The date for the next taster class will be listed on the main classes page, or email us at swingtownrebels@gmail.com for info.

What level am I?

All the level info is here.

What should I wear?

Swing dancing is an active dance. We advise wearing comfortable clothes you can move around in, and flat/very comfortable shoes.
