After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Christchurch Swing Festival due to uncertainty arising from the COVID-19 virus outbreak.
When we opened registrations a few weeks ago, the virus was just beginning to spread. Like event organizers around the world, we’ve been watching the situation closely. The prudent travel restrictions announced by the government yesterday will make it impractical to fly our headlining international teachers in for CSF. It also seems likely that there will be increased restrictions on public gatherings in the near future. These make it unlikely that we can run the event we had planned. We’ve also had to consider our responsibilities as members of our wider community, when dance festivals are the worst for spreading bugs! With the need to give attendees, venues and bands plenty of notice, we’ve made the call to postpone things indefinitely.
For those of you who have already registered, we’ve been in touch via email to organize refunds.
We’ll wait and see how the COVID-19 situation develops, and hopefully we can run CSF at a later date, as we are super excited about the teachers and the format that we had planned!
Finally, while CSF in its current form won’t go ahead in April, we’ll be looking at ways we can continue to share the dancing joy remotely. Watch this space.
This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we realize that it will be a disappointment for many (we were super excited about CSF too!). Thanks for your understanding and support.
As we all get through the next few months, let’s continue to be kind and support one another, particularly those in our communities who are most vulnerable. And, to those of you who are working on the frontlines of responding to COVID-19, thanks for all that you are doing!!
Christchurch Swing Festival (CSF) – Swingtown Rebel’s celebration of all things swing, with workshops from the bestest of teachers, and social dances with the greatest of local music! We haven’t run CSF since 2018 now, so we know you’ll all be hanging out to find out what we have in store for this year.
CSF 2020 will be held on ANZAC weekend, 24th – 27th April. With a welcome dance on the Friday night, we will then kick off three days of workshops, social dancing with great live bands for Saturday and Sunday nights and finishing with an afternoon tea dance on the Monday (it’s a public holiday!) so that any visiting out of towners can have plenty of time to travel home leisurely.
